Show of The Week: Noam Pikelny at The Bowery Ballroom

Punch Brother banjoist Noam Pikelny has released multiple records under his own name, but this year he released his first true solo record, Universal Favorite. Unlike his previous albums, he’s the only musician on this project.

Pikelny plays an assortment of instruments on the album, but it’s his banjo solos that make this one among my favorites of the year to date. Of note is “Waveland,” the album opener, which sounds like he’s loaded a harp with banjo strings.

On Friday, he’ll perform a seated show at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom – our show of the week. Get your tickets here.
