New Yorkers – there are so many shows for conversation this week that it’s tough to highlight just one or two. But we’ll try.

One I’m most excited about is Andrew Bird’s Friday afternoon set with Soundcheck Live at The Greene Space. His latest album, ‘Break It Yourself,’ has so far topped my list of 2012 faves, and from past shows I’ve seen of his, I’ve learned one thing: expect a lot, and he’ll deliver. This show sold out a day after it was announced, but I suggest checking StubHub for last minute tickets day of. If you’re still out of luck, definitely watch the live stream on the GS site. The show’s at 2 pm, so plug in your headphones, and don’t tell your boss. Or better yet, become your own boss.

Also, a band who was recently announced as among the ranks of Newport Folk Fest-ers taking to the stage this July is First Aid Kit – and Wednesday is your chance to check out the folk country duo at Webster Hall. Below is their video for ‘Emmylou,’ one of my personal favorites.

Not to go without mention is Delta Spirit, who’s touring to promote their new album. It’s quite a departure from the last, and I’m still on the fence; they’ll play Webster Hall with WATERS on Thursday for a sold out show. And also if, like me, you missed out on last Friday’s Bowerbirds show and therefore missed out on one of their awesome opening bands, Mandolin Orange, you’ve been granted a second chance. You can catch ’em tonight at 10 pm at Rockwood Music Hall.

Honestly, all the acts playing this week deserve their own write-up, so I recommend giving them a listen online and catching what you can. The calendar follows:
