Something most music-philes could agree on is how exciting that feeling is when you just discover a new artist that immediately resonates with you … especially when they’re just beginning their rise. It’s sort of like starting a new relationship, where every new song is akin to a new conversation that brings a new insight into that someone who intrigues you. So basically, what I’m trying to say is … Mandolin Orange and I are dating. (I’ll figure out a way to let them know. It will be romantic.)
The Chapel Hill sweetheart-duo grabbed my attention when I was looking up the opening acts for Friday’s Bowerbirds show at Bowery Ballroom (check out their recently recorded video below, inspired by Couch By Couch West). Mandolin, along with another great up-and-coming band Dry the River, will set the stage for the birds in what (knocks on wood) promises to be a great show.
Not to be forgotten, however, is Saturday night’s bluegrass extravaganza at Brooklyn’s Union Hall. Put your boots on and head down for some down-home dancin’ tunes – washboard, spoons, and all.
