If you thought it couldn’t get any better than it was in 2011, Jay Sweet and the good folks at The Newport Folk Festival proved you wrong tonight. Much more to come on this lineup…most of the folks you’ve heard about here before, but some unfamiliar faces as well. I’m especially excited to see the old timers on the list. The Kossoy Sisters of Cambridge played Newport in 1959 and are back this year. Spider John Koerner, who is in poor health, last played Newport in 1964 and his last wish was to do it again. AMAZING.
Also of note are grass clippings friends honeyhoney and Spirit Family Reunion. SO many other favorites, that I don’t want to name any names.
Tickets for the festival, which sold out in advance for the first time ever last year, are already on sale now. This is going to be the best weekend of the summer. Hope to party with you there. If you can’t make it…we’ll bring it to you here.
