Iris Dement, the Arkansas-born and bred gospel singer who released her first album in sixteen years late last year, takes the stage for a sold out show at City Winery this Sunday. Dement, whose profile was raised with an appearance on the True Grit soundtrack a couple years back, released the Sing the Delta (Amazon MP3 & Spotify) in October to rave reviews. The album’s title track also took the #1 spot on the gcb West Coast Songs of the Year post to close out the year. Dement hasn’t toured much in the last few years, so this is a rare opportunity to catch her in the city, and fittingly at New York’s classier Americana venue which has hosted some incredibly memorable shows in the last few years.
Jason Wilber, who like Dement has been a member of John Prine’s band, will join Dement as a special guest. This should be an epic occasion and I can’t wait.
