It’s a bit (PUN ALERT) slim “clippings” this week … which we like to think of as something that makes it that much easier to arrange our schedule. Because it’s Tuesday, and because it’s fun […]

This Week’s Must-See Shows in NYC
Y’all know “25 Degrees of Kevin Bacon”? Sure ya do. In an effort to reduce the amount of sh@$ I’ll get for advocating a non-traditional artist as a top pick for us bluegrass lovers to […]

The year of Carly Rae Jepsen and Psy…the year of Frankenstorm…the year of the 47 percent…and even the year of Pennsylvania’s purple squirrel is now drawing to a close. While the fine folks at American Songwriter, […]
12 Must-See Shows This Week
To a lot of New Yorkers (and beyond), the past week of Sandy and post-Sandy chaos has meant a lot of frayed nerves, cold bodies, dark streets and – not shockingly – canceled shows. But […]

clippings calendar: This Week’s Must-See Shows in NYC
So many good shows this week, so little time. Justin Townes Earle is back in town, up-and-comers The Whiskey Collection hit Rockwood again, Jonathan Wilson and Jenny O do their thing, and the list goes […]
May’s First Sunday Six
Sara Watkins (San Diego) – About a decade ago, I was college senior, nervously chatting with Sara Watkins after a Nickel Creek show in Atlanta. Sara’s brother Sean and Chris Thile, the other two in […]
April’s Second Sunday Six
Justin Townes Earle (New York & Nashville) – While Justin Townes Earle never quite sways outside of the wide-reaching genre of Americana, each of his albums has sounded different from the one that preceded it. […]
Charleston’s Shovels & Rope Tours with Jonny Corndawg This Spring

Clippings From This Week’s Live Shows, Including Pearl and the Beard, The Gregory Brothers and The DeLorean Sisters

Okay, New Yorkers – let’s get down to brass tacks, here. The holidays are fast approaching, it’s cold, there’s an exorbitant amount of tourists taking over the streets as well as your favorite new-but-made-to-look-like-vintage clothing stores, and most importantly, after last week’s Ryan Adams and Justin Townes Earle shows at Carnegie Hall, you feel like the live music circuit is on a major decline until after the new year.
Well, you’re right. But you’re also partially mistaken, as the upcoming weeks may actually be the best time to get hip to (I’ve never used that phrase before) some awesome, local acts who are on the rise. For that reason, here’s a calendar of this week’s most exciting live shows of some bands you know, and hopefully, some you don’t.
So, put on the brightest gloves you own, brave the cold, and we’ll catch you folkers at the venues – I’ll be the one double-fisting hot toddies and holding a picture of Ryan Gosling playing the ukelele. (Click “more” to see the calendar, and make sure you scroll down on the embed to view all the night listings.)
Americana December at Carnegie Hall
There are two reasonably epic shows next month at the venue of venues. On Friday, December 2nd WFUV and Carnegie Hall bring Justin Townes Earle to Zankel Hall, the smaller, more contemporary stage at Carnegie. […]
