Bluegrass has many sects. And tonight is a big one for the hazier end of the spectrum: the jam band crowd.
Metropolitan Jamgrass Alliance, a new supergroup of musicians from top touring jam band bands, makes their debut at Brooklyn Bowl tonight. Featuring three NYC-area musicians known for mind-blowing solos – Railroad Earth fiddler Tim Carbone, The Infamous Stringdusters guitarist Andy Falco and Yonder Mountain Stringband mandolinist Jacob Jolliff – the Alliance also includes celebrated banjoist Ryan Cavanaugh and bassist Patrick Falco. A rotating cast of guests will help fill out the band, including Eddie Barbash on saxophone.
While most of the jam bands these guys come from pass through NYC pretty regularly, it’s a rarity to see a lineup like this outside of a summer festival.
They don’t have any videos yet, so take a gander at these solos and use your imagination.
Tickets here and at the door. Brooklyn Bluegrass Collective opens the night.
