Following the release of his full-length debut, Judah’s Gone, last year, Berkeley-based and Oklahoma-born Americana singer songwriter M. Lockwood Porter released two singles earlier this month. One of the two is “Chris Bell,” an interesting reflection on the tragic life and death of the Big Star band member whose songs were touted by 80s rock bands like REM, Teenage Fanclub and Cheap Trick. Set against some nice 70s California rock harmonies, pedal steel and piano, the song is a taste of Porter’s forthcoming follow-up EP.
