As much as I appreciate the current folks in Old Crow Medicine Show, it’s just not the same without Willie Watson. A voice like that is hard to replace.

Over the last year or so, Watson has stayed busy – recently wrapping a very successful fall tour with longtime friends Dave Rawlings Machine (including Gillian Welch), opening up for folks like Punch Brothers, Sarah Jarosz and Dawes and appearing with John C. Reilly.

But this year we’ll finally get to see Watson’s solo album. We don’t know many details yet, but it’s allegedly set for release this spring and was produced by David Rawlings. Stay tuned for more and, in the meantime, check out a few videos to whet your appetite. The lineup includes an old Charley Jordan song, a OCMS song, one of my favorite Guthrie tunes and a recent rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California” filmed in Athens in the upstairs lobby of the Georgia Theatre with Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Rawlings, Welch and Paul Kowert of the Punch Brothers.
