It’s been just about a week since Sarah Jarosz released Build Me Up Bones (Amazon MP3 & Spotify), her third album on Sugar Hill, with a couple of shows at Rockwood and just days after I caught her performance at the Brooklyn Bluegrass Bash. While “Can’t Hide” off of Song Up in Her Head, is still my favorite Jarosz song, holistically the new album is my favorite of the three. Featuring her phenomenal backing band of Alex Hargreaves on fiddle and Nathaniel Smith on cello, the album is a grown-up Jarosz playing a much more sophisticated set of tunes that expand upon her traditional roots and move into more of a Ben Sollee-esque top of the mountain tune meets music school mix.
Check out a few vids that WNYC released today following the band’s appearance on Soundcheck, including “Build Me Up Bones,” the title track and my favorite off of the new album.
