In my travels Down Under, I got to know Sydney-based and UK-born singer songwriter Aidan Cooney, a.k.a. boy outside.
Earlier this month, boy outside released a self titled EP that I got an early listen of back in April (and wrote about it then), but it’s now widely available on iTunes & Spotify.
Cooney’s Bright-Eyes-esque smokey voice represents some of Sydney’s best hipster-friendly Americana. Sydneysiders can catch Cooney’s August residency at Arcadia Liquors in Redfern (a damn fine spot) this Thursday and next Thursday (8/22 and 8/29).
“Broken Arcade” and “River Runs to the Sea,” which is below, are my favorites of the six track collection.
