Last week Newport Folk Festival freshman Rayland Baxter announced a new digital EP called ashkeLon, which will be released on August 20th. A follow up to his ATO Records debut last year with Feathers & Fishhooks (Amazon MP3 & Spotify), the new five-song EP was recorded live in his home in Nashville. He talked about the EP’s name – a city in Israel – in an interview with Paste:

“Ashkelon is where I started writing songs and where I have returned numerous times. For me, that was where this all began,” said Baxter. “It’s a very special place. It’s my little green garden in the desert.”

While we’ve got a few weeks to wait for the full EP, Baxter has already released  a video for “Bad Things” one of the five tacks. The song has a bit of a Buddy Miller kinda feel, which feels different than his last album. I like it. Check that out below, see here for dates of Baxter’s tour and stay tuned because we’re hoping to catch up with Baxter in Newport.
