A couple weeks back, New Orleans-based Alynda lee Segarra (a.k.a. Hurray for the Riff Raff) jumped on the badass-bill-so-far for this summer’s Newport Folk Festival. Alynda was an addition I asked Jay Sweet for last August, so (without making any assumptions about my pull) I’m pretty fired up about this. This week, Alynda had a birthday, which also happened to be the one year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin. She wrote a great song to remember Trayvon after a visiting the Civil Rights museum in Memphis. Here she is with “Everybody Knows.”
