In November, Minneapolis-based alt-Americana artist Haley Bonar (that last name rhymes with “honor,” smartass) released a two-song 7”/digital single featuring “Bad Reputation” on the A-side and “Down Sunny Roads” on the B-side (Amazon MP3 & Spotify). Bonar, who has toured and performed with fellow Midwesterner Andrew Bird, also appeared on Bird’s 2007 album Armchair Apocrypha. However she has released six albums of her own, most recently Golder (Amazon MP3 & Spotify) in 2011.
Bonar’s two song single shows the variety of her sound and great songwriting. “Down Sunny Roads” features delicate Kat Edmonson-esque folk vocals and quiet instrumentation while the more indie rock sounding “Bad Reputation” carries more of an Elliott Smith feel.
