This Week’s Top 10-ish NYC Shows

UPDATE: Another show addition — John McCauley performs at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, October 27 … along with bandmates and friends Deer Tick, Diamond Rugs, Jason Isbell, Mark Sultan, Langhorne Slim and Adam Clayton-Holland. Don’t ask me how we missed it – I don’t have an answer. BUT – better late than too late. Tickets are still available, so go get ’em.

A big week this week, y’all. A big, busy week. Personally, I think it would be judicious to see every act on this lineup … but as that is within the realm of impossibility, here are some notables.

Two opportunities this week to see Father John Misty aka J Tillman — once at Music Hall of Williamsburg, another at Bowery Ballroom. Seize it (and below, watch his video for “That Go,” starring Parks and Rec’s Aubrey Plaza). Also, the stars have aligned and allowed another chance for all swooning ladies (and gents?) to corner Langhorne Slim in a dark alley of Brooklyn Bowl. Oh, yeah, and check out his tunes, too. Yeah, right, totally, duh (swoon).

If you haven’t heard the beautiful voice and songs of local cutie patootie Kate Davis (see photo above — am I right, or am I right?), you really should. She’s a unique take off of other young up-and-comers (think: Sarah Jarosz meets Town Hall), and she’s playing Hill Country on Friday.

And one more double opp — Brandi Carlile and Blitzen Trapper, two nights at Beacon Theatre. Might as well, right?
