While the headline acts at Bangor, Maine’s 4th Annual KahBang Festival aren’t ones that we typically cover here, the festival – lasting four days with a wide variety of genres and styles in music, art, and film – includes three up-and-comers that caught our eye/ear.
First, Brooklyn’s indie folk favorite Pearl & the Beard is one we’ve been following for the last year or so. AND the band got a virtual high five from PerezHilton yesterday who noted the band is “like Dave Matthews Band meets Mumford & Sons” (not the description I would use, but it’s damn fine to see him write about good tunes). Also, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (aka Aly Spaltro), who hails from Brunswick, Maine but now lives in Brooklyn, will play the festival for the second year in a row. Spaltro’s powerful voice and vintage Americana sound has been gaining more attention, landing the young songwriter on the cover of Performer magazine earlier this year. Also, Oklahoma’s minimalist folkster Young Readers (aka Jordan Herrera) brings a nice contrast to Spaltro’s power with his gentle acoustic rifts.
Here’s Lady Lamb the Beekeeper with “All I Really Want to Do.”
