There are lots of up-sides to summers in the city, and one of them is getting the chance to make up for spending (way) too much on concerts throughout the “school year” by taking advantage of all the awesome, outdoor, and largely free shows the season has to offer. But as far as SummerStage lineups go, this year’s kickass schedule may have topped any of recent memory. The one bill I may be most excited about is August’s Old Crow Medicine Show, The Lumineers and The Milk Carton Kids conglomerate. It’s not free, but at only $35, you can swallow it. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 27 at noon, so be sure to buy ’em up fast.
But if you don’t want to spend a dime – not to fear. You can set up camp for free to see the likes of, oh y’know, (takes breath) Alabama Shakes, Dawes, Robert Ellis, Jonny Corndawg, Deer Tick, Abigail Washburn, Carolina Chocolate Drops (takes breath), Diamond Rugs, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Jonny Irion, GIVERS, Buckwheat Zydeco and more. Check out the actual dates and associated acts below. (Note: stay tuned for a complete summer concert calendar that will be posted once Prospect Park’s Celebrate Brooklyn lineup is announced.)
