Clippings From This Week’s NYC Shows: Steve Earle, Spirit Family Reunion & Jus Post Bellum Kick Off January Residencies

Spirit Family Reunion

Residencies. When I moved to the city, the concept of a “residency” was foreign to this Miami-dweller. Now, the month-long, weekly recurrences are one of my favorite musical inventions … especially when acts like Spirit Family Reunion, Jus Post Bellum and Steve Earle are involved.

As for SFR, they kick off their weekly stint tonight at the Lower East Side’s Living Room. Meanwhile, just a hop away, Jus Post Bellum kicks off its residency at Arlene’s Grocery. If you like beards, fiddles and an out-n-out good time (oh, and did I mention … free? a free good time?), you need to catch at least one show per band this month. If you’re unfamiliar with Spirit, check out this video from a semi-recent show at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn. Learn more about the sounds of Jus Post Bellum frontman Geoffery Wilson here.

To make January even better, country great Steve Earle will be classing it up at City Winery once a week through February 6, playing this coming Monday with wife Allison Moorer at the downtown venue. Buy your tickets now — they’re sure to sell out quickly.
