Over the weekend, I finally bought Smart Flesh, The Low Anthem’s newest album which was released in January. I can’t stop. It’s so good. Can’t believe I waited this long. I caught these guys at The Newport Folk Festival last summer, but missed their Bowery Ballroom shows in NYC last week. The band is now abroad, but is coming back to the states in a few weeks.
Really interesting interview here with the band put out by ABC News Amplified yesterday. Apparently Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky got acquainted at a Brown University radio station where they played jazz albums all night. Also some funny stories in there about fan gifts, which include old instruments and mustache enthusiast merchandise.
But back to the music. Great diversity on the album, ranging from Dylan-esque Americana tracks like “Hey, All You Hippies!’’to modern indie-rock tracks like “Boeing 737” to light piano accompaniments like “Ghost Woman Blues.”
A few tracks below. Definitely worth checking out. If you missed the band’s last album, Oh My God Charlie Darwin, it also is pretty impressive. Read the back story on that one in this Blackbook story from 09.
