What if Sufjan, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes and Lost in the Trees all made a bunch of love children that moved to Seattle? They might sound a little like Hey Marseilles. This band, who (again) I discovered on NPR’s Tiny Desk podcast, is another that you might find in the background of a Wes Anderson film.
The band’s first full-length album, To Travels and Trunks, was released in June (nationally at least, but the album was previously released regionally back in 2008) and is worth a listen. These guys throw themselves in the genre of chamber-pop. “Rio,” the bands single, opens with group clapping, which is just splendid. You can download this track for free on the band’s Web site. Check it out.
P.S. Not sure how often these guys make it to the East Coast, but I’ll be watching.
