Brooklyn’s Folk Play Project

October 19, 2012

As if there wasn’t enough good stuff happening this weekend with CMJ going on, enter The Folk Play Project – a 24-hour play festival based on folk music.

Here’s how it works: 6 plays will be written, rehearsed, and performed in 24 hours.  The writers start writing Saturday night, with a prompt they’ve never seen, and then in the morning directors and actors come in to rehearse all day until the plays are performed Sunday night.

What makes this one special?  Each play is going to be based on an American folk song, and when the plays are performed a live band will introduce each play with the song that served as its inspiration. A live band will introduce each play with the song that served as its inspiration.  The event is free, but reservations are suggested.

VENUE: Brooklyn Art Exchange, 421 Fifth Ave., Brooklyn, NY (near the F, G, and R trains)
EVENT DATE: Sunday, October 21 at 7pm
