holy grass: The Blind Boys of Alabama – DUETS

New album out this week by gospel legends The Blind Boys of Alabama. Creatively, it’s called DUETS and it’s a bunch of duets. Their first single, “Perfect Peace,” features Jamaican reggae legend Toots Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals. It’s all splendid, but my favorite track is “Magnificent Sanctuary Band” and features Susan Tedeschi.

Lots of good stuff on here, some of which has been previously released on other albums. The new recordings feature Lou Reed (doing his typical Lou Reed thing), blues legend John Hammond (amazing) and the new single with Toots. The lineup also includes Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Travis, Solomon Burke, Asleep at the Wheel and what’s a contemporary gospel album without the obligatory Jars of Clay duet.
